brighton invisalign

Our team wants to help shift your uneven teeth to their proper positions with a cosmetic approach to orthodontics. Instead of metal braces, we have a series of clear and cozy plastic aligners. In today’s blog, your Brighton, MA, dentist talks about how we address your misalignment with custom Invisalign® orthodontics!

The Causes and Dangers of Poor Alignment

You could develop misalignment due to issues like thumb sucking in childhood, or issues with the growth of the jaw that impacts how teeth erupt. Tooth loss could be a factor, as could injury. The factors may vary, but the result is poor alignment that alters the appearance of your smile and that could make it more difficult to brush and floss, leaving you vulnerable to tooth decay and dental infection. There could also be stress on the jaw that leads to TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). But we can help correct your smile to stop these complications and offer more attractive results. Instead of braces, we could do so with clear Invisalign® aligners.

Creating Your Custom Orthodontics

The Invisalign® system doesn’t require our team to use metal brackets and wires. Instead, a series of clear and cozy plastic aligners will be used to correct your smile. To get started, we will take detailed digital images and measurements of your smile from multiple angles. We then combine these to create a 3D impression of your bite, one that will be used in a lab setting to design and craft your custom orthodontics. These will fit snugly over your teeth and help shift your smile to optimal alignment, often in as little as one year.

The Invisalign® Treatment Process

When your aligners are complete, you can start the treatment process. You will wear a set of custom aligners for about 20 to 22 hours a day on average, over a period of around two weeks. At the two-week mark, you will begin wearing the next set of aligners for the same amount of time, continuing the process as your smile is gradually and gently repositioned. The orthodontics are easy to clean and maintain, and can travel with you too. Being removable means you don’t have to change your diet, simply take them out before meals. The removable nature also means an easier time brushing and flossing during the treatment process.
