Just because you need orthodontic care, doesn’t mean you have to rely solely on metal braces. Instead, your Brighton, MA, dentists may suggest a solution that is clear and barely noticeable. With Invisalign®, you don’t need metal wires or brackets, instead we have custom-made and clear aligners that fit comfortably!
The Value of Treating Misalignment
Why should you consider finally tackling your dental misalignment? Well, first an even smile could give you greater self-confidence and help you make an excellent first impression. But esthetics aside, correcting crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth has been shown to also improve overall oral health. Did you know that uneven teeth provide places for food particles to become lodged, often beyond the reach of your toothbrush or floss tape? As bacteria then break down these particles, this leads to oral acidity, plaque buildup, and a higher risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Uneven teeth also put pressure on the jaw joints and could upset your bite’s balance, meaning issues like TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding) could develop as well.
The Invisalign® System
If you have uneven teeth and wish for a solution, then schedule a consultation with our team. After examining your smile with digital technology, such as digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, we will decide which option best addresses your misalignment. If we select Invisalign®, then treatment will consist of wearing a set of aligners of between 20 and 22 hours per day. Every two weeks on average you will upgrade to the next set in the series. The total course of treatment takes about a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens, but of course will depend on the severity of your misalignment and whether you wear your aligners as we prescribe!
Creating Your New Aligners
The process is more comfortable than braces for many, as the aligners are created specifically for your smile. They fit comfortably, move the teeth with accuracy and precision, and don’t irritate the gums and cheeks. To create them, we first take a series of detailed digital images, which we combine to create a 3D model. The model enables experts to craft the aligners in a lab setting, ensuring each one gradually and carefully repositions the teeth. If you have any questions about how we correct uneven teeth, or if you would like to see if this option is right for your smile, then contact our team today. Let’s make big changes for your smile in 2021!
