How do you feel about your smile? When you look in the mirror, do you see a perfect smile or one plagued with misalignment? Despite feeling self-conscious about misalignment, few adults and teens are eager to correct the issue with metal orthodontics. As an esthetically pleasing alternative to braces, Dr. Villani and Dr. Kondrat of Brighton Family Dental Group offer Invisalign clear braces.
Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign
Question: Who qualifies for Invisalign?
Answer: We will perform a thorough examination of your teeth and jaw to decide whether Invisalign is the best choice for correcting your misalignment. Typically, Invisalign is recommended for adults and teens 15 and older who have minor misalignment.
Question: Does Invislign use metal brackets and wires?
Answer: No, instead of metal orthodontics, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to correct crooked or crowded teeth. The aligners gradually and gently reposition the teeth to an optimal setting. About every two weeks, the patient will upgrade to a new set of aligners.
Question: How often do I need to wear my aligners?
Answer: You will need to wear your aligners every day between 20 and 22 hours. The entire treatment time for Invisalign takes about a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens. For our younger patients, the aligners feature a small blue dot on the end. This allows the dentist and parents to make sure the aligners are worn properly, as the blue dot will gradually wear away if teens wear the aligners correctly.
Question: Will I need to change my diet?
Answer: No. Since the aligners can be removed before meals, you don’t need to worry about food becoming stuck in or damaging your orthodontics. Furthermore, removable braces make brushing and flossing your teeth easier, improving overall oral hygiene.
